Does Your Fruit Smoothie Cause a Spike in Your Blood Glucose Levels?

As you know, I love my smoothies and am a big supporter of having a daily smoothie. As you have probably worked out by now, I prefer green smoothies. This is because I limit how much fruit I take in daily and I do really love to eat fresh fruit.

In this video, Michelle aka The Fruit Doctor talks about the sugar spikes that you can experience if you drink big fruit smoothies. She relates the experience of one of her diabetic patients.

So, if you are worried about a sugar spike after drinking fruit smoothies, then watch this video. Just a warning though, the video is a little lengthy.

The conclusion in this video is really that you should test your blood glucose levels and make your own decisions as to what is best for you…

If you are worried, then test your blood glucose level first in morning and then again 45 minutes after your smoothie and again an hour after that. She suggest that if you are readings are high, that you should rather eat your fruit and combine them with fat. (nuts or nut butters)
