Who is Dr Caroline Apovian?

Dr Apovian is probably best known for her role as the medical adviser to the Dr Oz show.

As she explained on the Dr Oz show she uses a two pronged approach to weight loss. The first part is to jump start your diet by starting of the first day with 3 shrink drinks. These are smoothies that are low in sugar and high in protein. These drinks help the body to regulate insulin and allow it to lose water and thereby reduce bloating.

Recipe Ingredients

1 scoop Protein Powder
1 cored, seeded, quartered Apple
a sliced Banana
1 peeled, sliced Carrot
a cup of Water
1 peeled, quartered Orange
2 handfuls of Spinach

Dr Oz: Crispy Apple Smoothie Recipe Directions

  1. Combine all your ingredients in a blender. You should probably put the powder in after you add the water, because sometimes protein powder can become cakey or stuck in the bottom of the blender if you add it first.
  2. Blend or puree the ingredients to your preferred smoothie consistency.
  3. Enjoy this drink with a straw and think about what a great thing you are doing for your body.
